Fay Yokomizo Akindes is interested in global, digital and social media, community-based learning, and inclusive diversity. She teaches media and cultural studies; her research problematizes communication & culture in Hawaii. In 2005 she was a Fulbright Teaching Scholar in Benin, West Africa. The highlight of her Fulbright was traveling with students over two national borders to attend an international literature conference in Accra, Ghana. She has a Ph.D. in mass communication and a M.A. in telecommunication management from Ohio University, and a B.A. in journalism from the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Before graduate school she had an 11-year career in broadcast marketing and promotion - public radio (San Diego) and commercial and public TV (Honolulu). She was born and raised on Molokai.
